Dignity is a human right

Famous Actors Who Were Homeless

Actors, singers, and famous TV personalities are admired by many. They become an inspiration for others to achieve the same dreams in life. But before fame and popularity, some of these celebrities were average people. In fact, most of them even had severe struggles, including being homeless.

Believe it or not, there is a surprisingly large number of famous actors that have been homeless at some point in their lives. Because of such experience, this has taught them life lessons which later helped them become the kind of person they are right now. Some actors even mentioned that if it weren't for experiencing homelessness, they wouldn't have found the sense of humour or grit that has made them famous.

So, who are these famous actors who used to be homeless?

Sylvester Stallone

The action star, Sylvester Stallone, who is famous for his “Rocky” movies, used to be homeless before hitting any projects. He spent three weeks staying at the Port Authority bus station. He came across a filming gig that paid $100 a day. After working for two days on the film, he was able to get himself out of the bus station.

Kelly Clarkson

Her story came out quite tragic for someone who just moved into LA. Kelly Clarkson used to live in her car and in shelters when her apartment was burnt down in a fire. She had little money, no contacts, and nowhere else to go.

Hilary Swank

This "Million Dollar Baby" star used to be homeless when she and her mom first moved to Los Angeles. They had to live in their car and, sometimes, slept in an empty house that her friend was selling. They set up the air mattress every night and left early in the morning.

Daniel Craig

Being popularly known as "James Bond", who would have thought Daniel Craig struggled so much before his breakthrough? He used to sleep on park benches in London and waited tables during the early moments of his career.

Margot Kidder

During his interview with “Inside the Actors Studio”, Jim Carrey shared his experience when his father lost his job and almost everything. They had a van where everyone in his family lived. He quit school to work as a janitor. At times, they lived in a tent on her sister's front lawn. Looking back, Jim Carrey was grateful because it was in those tough moments that he was able to develop a good sense of humour.

"Catwoman" star, Halle Berry, used to struggle in New York when she was still starting out her career. At the age of 21, she decided to move to New York to become an actress. Running short on cash, she had to live in homeless shelters for quite some time.

Homelessness is a common issue yet people don't really take notice. It's actually happening, and unlike these actors who had their breakthrough, many homeless people are struggling and risking their lives out in the streets.
