Backpack Bed for Homeless is nationally registered charity in Australia (independent of the USA charity).
The Backpack Bed is used as emergency relief bedding for homeless without shelter. Sadly, the demand outweighs fundraising. In Australia we supply only around 10% of the 49,200 who will sleep on Australian streets this year (ABS 2016).

The Backpack Bed is used as emergency relief bedding for homeless without shelter in the Cornwall area. Backpack Bed funding was provided by locals. The Cornwall Welfare Agency Partner wanted to be sure the Backpack Bed was suitable for local street sleeping homeless. This is the review by a local homeless man Jay. As a result, local fundraisers joined together to fund Backpack Beds. Survey results are being compiled.
Set up
The Backpack Bed has a surprising amount of internal space … Jay is 6ft 4” (193cm) and weighs 18.5 Stone (117kg). He says the Backpack Bed has superb space, could easily accommodate his belongings and would be fine if you had a dog too.
Ready for sleep
Setting up took less than a minute – Jay had never set the Backpack Bed up before. Note: built-in ropes – without using these, the Backpack Bed still works as a warm and enclosed space. Remember Jay’s height and weight, he looks far from cramped! The Backpack Bed takes up little space and the person inside is well protected from the elements.!

“Clearly sleeping on the hard ground is never ideal but this was so much better than a doorway! At least I was warm and dry and so were my few possessions. It rained in the early hours, but I remained totally dry and the wind did not penetrate either. Bonus!”
