Donate Anonymously and receive a Tax Deduction

Have you ever wanted to donate to a charity but don't want to share your personal details?
It is possible in Australia to make a tax deductible donation anonymously and still obtain a tax deduction from the ATO.

How to Donate Anonymously and HELP Homeless People

  1. Backpack Bed for Homeless is a national charity with DGR (Deductible Gift Recipient) status.
  2. Donate directly into our charity bank account - via direct deposit or over the counter at a branch.

  3. Keep your Bank Records as proof of your donation - as per the ATO requirements you can keep records of your donation without receiving a receipt from the charity (see below). Donations over $2 are tax deductible.

ATO requirements for keeping records

The Australia Tax Office (ATO) states on their website:
"If you don't have a receipt, you can still claim a deduction by using other records, such as bank statements."

"You can use statements such as:

  • bank statement showing the amount paid to the DGR
  • stamped deposit slip showing the amount paid and the name or account number of the DGR
  • using internet banking – you can use a printed copy of the transfer details after making the gift"

When you call us or use the contact form on our website:
  • We request details only to help us assist with your enquiry so we can call (not all fields are mandatory).
  • We do not add these details to any mailing list - unless you specifically request to receive our newsletter.
  • The charity will not phone you to solicit donations.
Donations / donors
As a charity, we can provide donors with tax deductible receipts for donations $2 or more.

When we process donations via our website we ask for your details:
  • To provide a donation receipt there are certain pieces of information we must collect (ATO requirements).
  • To accept credit cards or Paypal there are also certain pieces of information we must collect (banking requirements).
  • If you prefer not to give your details please follow the steps for an anonymous donation above.
