Dignity is a human right

Have you seen someone in Melbourne who is homeless - sleeping on the street?

Do you wish they had a portable shelter - Backpack Bed (swag)?

Fact. There are not enough shelters and governments ignore the basic human right to shelter and dignity.

6,348 people will sleep rough on the street across VIC this year (ABS 2021).

Across Victoria the increase was 23.5% for people sleeping on the streets (ABS 2021 vs ABS 2016).

19% of homeless sleeping on Melbourne's streets have suffered cold/wet illnesses hypothermia, frostbite or trench foot (MS2H 2011).

These statistics were recorded at a time of COVID-19 lockdowns in Melbourne - when many people were temporarily put into motels and hotels and not counted as homeless.
